The Brao people, just like all the other ethnic groups of Central Indochina used to have their own traditional clothing. Women would weave cotton dyed in the natural pigments of forest plants, and each tribal group had their own patterns and styles.

In the old times, men would wear a 4-meter-long loincloth wrapped around the waist and women, a simple sarong and go bare breasted; they also had jackets and blankets for cold mornings.

All this has now virtually disappeared and the Brao people wear modern clothes from the market. Only a few women still know how to weave according to old customs.

To prevent those traditions from dying, Airavata decided to turn those discarded ethnic pieces of fabric into fashion items.

Phnom Penh has a vibrant fashion scene, and we were lucky that some of the most famous designers of the country agreed to meet our challenge and create beautiful fashion items bringing indigenous Brao culture into the limelight!

Some beautiful and original creations were produced by this collaboration!
